For this weeks Meet the team, we chat with Jon Date, effini’s Digital Communication Specialist. We talk about understanding the data world from a journalistic background and his love of books.
What is your role at effini and briefly explain what that means?
“I am the Digital Communication Specialist for effini, which means I work on the content we publish, such as on our website and our social media channels. This also includes work around our brand and having our writing featured in external publications.”
How did you get into a career in data?
“I studied journalism at university and once I graduated, I looked to go into some form of writing role. In the final year of the course, I had found I enjoyed a module on public relations and communications. From this, I took a job as a Social Media Marketer and Manager, before taking on my current role at effini. Before this, I hadn’t much experience with the data world, but I was intrigued and wanted to learn. Since I have started, I have been rapidly building up my knowledge, so that I can understand each part of what we do at effini.”
What do you enjoy most about your work?
“I like that I get to work on a variety of different tasks and projects. It means that I am often writing about new topics or areas that I have never covered before, which is also means I am always getting chance to learn about new things.”
Do you have any hobbies or activities that you most like to do when you are not working?
“I read a lot. To be honest, that sentence alone is an understatement. If it isn’t re-reading some of my favourites, I am often looking for a new novel to get stuck into. Whenever there is a book fair or event, I always like to go and see what I can find.”
